2025 Dacia Bigster Review.

The extended version of the next-generation Duster will provide a spacious and practical interior, comparable to larger vehicles while maintaining a price point similar to smaller models.
The Duster may be the shining star of the Dacia lineup, but a larger and equally rugged SUV is being developed and is set to become the flagship of the Romanian brand. The Dacia Bigster, previewed by the 2021 concept of the same name, will be launched in 2025, combining the advantages of the Duster with a more spacious cabin for the competitive C-SUV segment.
The production model is expected to resemble the styling of the Dacia Bugster Concept, with only a few minor adjustments. It is worth noting that the concept introduced the brand's updated design language, as well as the "Dacia Link" emblem and the new grille, which have already been adopted by the entire lineup.
As illustrated in our hypothetical visualization, the transition from concept to production is likely to involve only minor modifications, such as the use of more conventional LED lighting, alternative wheel designs, and a few alterations to the bumper. However, the model is expected to retain the distinctive features of the concept, including the prominent fenders, boxy wheel arches, oversized skid plates, and generous ground clearance. In fact, the two vehicles are expected to share a significant number of body panels, including the entire front section and potentially the taillights, resulting in the Bigster appearing as a stretched version of the Duster.

Spacious Interior

The Bigster is a practical vehicle, and its interior space is ample. It will likely be available in both a three-row 7-seater and a standard 5-seater configuration, catering to those who prioritize cargo space. This will make it Dacia's second 7-seater model, following the Jogger crossover estate.
Dacia's new range of accessories is expected to enhance the Bigster's adventurous character, making it an ideal companion for camping and outdoor activities.
The dashboard of the Bigster may be shared with the next-generation Duster as a cost-saving measure. The entry-level trim may not include a touchscreen, opting for smartphone integration solutions, and may not have advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). This cost-effective approach aims to provide a more affordable option for customers.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, there will be a luxurious «Extreme» trim, a popular option in other Dacia models. This trim will feature a large infotainment display and a digital instrument cluster, which is a first for the brand. The trim may also include durable and water-resistant fabric upholstery, vibrant accents throughout the interior, and textured surfaces to enhance the feel of hard-touch plastics.

The Longest Dacia

The Dacia Bugster concept car had a length of 4.6 meters (181 inches), positioning it in the vicinity of vehicles like the Nissan X-Trail and Skoda Kodiaq in the larger D-SUV category. If this measurement is maintained in the production version, it will become the largest and longest Dacia model, surpassing the 4,547 mm (179 inches) of the Jogger.
Despite its larger size, the Bigster will be built on the CMFB platform, which is typically reserved for smaller vehicles within the Renault Group. This platform will serve as the foundation for the entire Dacia lineup, including models like the Sandero, Sandero Stepway, Logan, Jogger, and Duster. This shared architecture strategy allows Dacia to offer its vehicles at a more affordable price point.

Petrol And Hybrid Options

The Bigster's engine options are anticipated to mirror those of the upcoming Duster, encompassing both petrol and hybrid alternatives. Consequently, it will incorporate Renault's 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine, equipped with a 48V mild-hybrid system to reduce emissions, in conjunction with an e-AWD system.
Given the significance of robust off-road performance for Dacia's flagship SUV, both the Bigster and Duster are expected to offer at least one powertrain configuration that delivers power to all four wheels.
In the realm of electrification, the Bigster is rumored to be available with a self-charging hybrid power, distinct from the current setup in the Dacia Jogger Hybrid. It is likely to utilize the next generation of Renault's E-Tech technology. Furthermore, there are speculations about the potential for a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version, which would be a first for Dacia.
Finally, the Romanian manufacturer could also provide the SUV with a dual-fuel (LPG/petrol) engine, serving as a substitute for the discontinued diesel, offering comparable low operating expenses.

Priced To Be A Bargain

Dacia intends to set the Bigster's price competitively, positioning it in the lower end of the segment. This strategy makes it an appealing choice for those seeking a spacious and rugged SUV at an affordable price. It is anticipated that the Bigster will target the entry-level versions of vehicles like the Skoda Karoq/Kodiaq and the Citroen C5 Aircross, rather than competing with more premium SUVs such as the Peugeot 3008/5008.
If we read between the lines, the Dacia Bigster is likely to be the most affordable C-SUV in the Renault Group, priced lower than the Nissan Qashqai and Renault Austral, which are based on the more sophisticated CMF-C platform. The starting price could be as low as €22,000 ($23,600), representing a premium of around €3,000 ($3,200) over the next-generation Duster.
The Dacia Bigster will be available in European dealerships in 2025, a year after the launch of its smaller sibling, the Duster. The Duster is scheduled to be unveiled later this month, with its official market launch set for 2024. This will provide us with a clearer picture of what to anticipate from the Bigster. Both vehicles will be manufactured at the same plant in Mioveni, Romania.
