2025 BMW X5 Full Review – The Ultimate Luxury SUV?

The X5 has three engine options: a turbo six-cylinder, twin-turbo V8, or a hybrid. They all pack a punch and give you a lot of speed, so driving the X5 is a blast. It might not be as fast or sporty as something like a Porsche Cayenne, but it's still fun to drive.

The ride is comfortable, even if it's not quite as smooth as a Genesis GV80.
The BMW X5 models for 2025 are as user-friendly and attractive as ever, thanks to their striking interior and exterior designs, as well as the optional Highway Assistant with Active Lane Change capability.

What lies ahead in the year 2025?

The X5 introduces a novel lane-change assist feature for 2025. The optional Highway Assist feature, which enables the driver to approve a lane change suggested by the X5, is now accessible. To activate the feature, the driver needs to look in the rear-view mirror. Once the system detects the driver's approval, it executes the maneuver. It's a fantastic feature. When we drive an X5 with this setup, we'll demonstrate how it functions in real-world scenarios. Otherwise, the X5 operates without any alterations.

Conquer any path with ease

When you drive a BMW X5, you can have complete confidence. Experience the precision of Dynamic Damper Control, which is standard on all models, or opt for Adaptive M Suspension or 2-Axle Air Suspension, available on select models. Additionally, the xdrive50i, M60 i, and xDrive40i all feature BMW's intelligent all-wheel drive system as standard.

Pricing

The starting price for the 2025 BMW X5 is $66,875, with the top-of-the-line model costing up to $91,175. The base trim, sDrive40i, is rear-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is standard on the xDrive40i, xDrive50e, and xDrive M60i models. We value both cost-effectiveness and performance, so we believe the xDrive40i is the best choice for the X5. It offers sports-sedan acceleration, and all-wheel drive, and is a great value in this premium segment. We recommend adding the Premium package for its head-up display, LED exterior lighting, remote engine start, and Harman/Kardon stereo system.

Interior and Cargo

The interior of the X5 has plenty of room for adults in the front and back seats. When you get in, you'll see a cabin that's decorated with high-quality materials, tons of charging ports for all your devices, and depending on the options you choose, some cool features. The seats in the front are adjustable so you can customize them to your liking. Every model has an adjustable steering wheel, heated seats, a sunroof, climate control that works in two zones, a power liftgate at the back, windshield wipers that sense when it's raining, and lights that can change the color. The X5 can feel like a luxury SUV, but it's not cheap. You can also add a Bowers & Wilkins audio system with diamond-shaped tweeters if you want. There's plenty of cargo space in the X5. When the back seats were up, we could fit 11 personal items behind them. But when we folded them down – you can do that from the side or back of the car – we had room for 26 things. The GLE did okay in this test compared to the X5, but it's a bit harder to fold those back seats down.

The range, charge time, and battery life

The X5 has a 25.7 kWh battery pack that can give you up to 38 miles (about 60 km) of electric driving, according to the EPA. It can go up to 84 mph (about 135 km/h) without using the gas engine. You can charge the battery at home with a 110 or 220-volt outlet, or you can use public charging stations.

Engine and Transmission

The X5 for 2025 comes with three different engines. The sDrive40i and xDrive40i have a 375 horsepower turbocharged six-cylinder engine. It's great for any BMW model you put it in. The xDrive50e is a plug-in hybrid with a turbocharged six and an electric motor. It makes 483 hp. And the M60i has a twin-turbo V8 with 523 hp. All the engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic.
The X5 has a smooth ride and great handling. Its steering is connected and direct, like in all BMW SUVs. The Audi Q7 is still better in this area, but the X5 is close. When you take the X5 into a corner, it stays planted and gives you a predictable response, unlike the Mercedes-Benz GLE.

Fuel Economy

The EPA says the plug-in hybrid XDrive50e should get 22 mpg in the city, 23 mpg on the highway, and 58 mpg combined. The rear wheel drive SDrive40i and all-wheel drive XDrive40i get 23/27 mpg respectively. The V8-powered M60i gets 17/22 mpg. On a 75 mph highway test, the XDrive50e got 26 mpg and went 33 miles on electricity alone.

Infotainment and Connectivity

When you get inside the X5, the first thing you'll notice is the curved screen that takes up two-thirds of the dash. There's a 12.3" screen behind the wheel that shows all the important info, and a bigger 14.9" touchscreen that lets you control all the infotainment features. You can also use a rotary dial on the center console to control everything.
The X5 has Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, wireless charging for your phone, and a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot. It's all pretty cool.

Safety and Driver

BMW has some cool driver assistance features built in, like automated emergency braking. It also has some more advanced features that aren't standard, like hands-free driving. Some of the key safety features are:
Standard automated emergency braking that can detect pedestrians
Lane departure warning so you don't drift out of your lane
Optional adaptive cruise control that works with hands-free mode.
